Crushes Workplace Principles and Practices

Crushes Workplace Principles and Practices

This is an excerpt from our induction papers for all new staff. We share this in hope to inspire other businesses to consider what their workplaces mission is and to perhaps adopt this feminist business model to their own place of work.

This has been inspired by both The 12 Principles For Prototyping A Feminist Business and this Forbes Article.

We would love to hear your thoughts, so please comment below!

Thriving economically while living our values is deeply disruptive to the current social and economic order. Let us transform our relationship to money, to work, to the earth, to our bodies, and to each other.

-

YOU ARE HUMAN. PROGRESS AND PROFIT ARE NOT:

  • Happiness is the new definition of success. Seek happiness, pleasure, and the fulfillment of your needs. Move towards the things that bring joy.
  • Free yourself from the myth of the meritocracy. You don’t have to prove anything here. Just bring yourself. Do your best.
  • Prioritise your ‘houora’ to build a foundation for a sustainable life so you can then contribute well to our workplace. Share what your needs may be. Eat when you are hungry, rest when you are tired. Have holidays, take your birthday off.
  • Then give freely, because support is a circular economy. Everything that you are needing, someone else is needing, too. Do more than just your job description to lighten the load of the team. Have consistently strong performance so colleagues can rely upon you. Do what you can to make your colleagues better.
  • Institutionalize empathy to your teammates, customers, and yourself. You will know if this is functioning well if when honest mistakes are made, kindness and support are the response.

BE OPEN, HONEST AND LOUD:

  • Understand before you react. Listen well.
  • Admit when you don't know.
  • Own your talents and abilities.
  • Use your voice. Advocate for the people and things you believe in. Hold yourself and others accountable. Say what you think, even if it is uncomfortable
  • Tell the truth, be authentic, candid, and show transparency, while remaining calm and respectful
  • Only say things about fellow employees that you would say to their face.
  • Rid yourself of ego or self-doubt. Instead, discern your motivations and correct your language and/or behaviour to favour the collective.
  • Recognize we all have biases, and grow past them. Be curious about how our different backgrounds affect us at work, rather than pretending they don’t affect us. Don’t expect others to behave how you would.

ACT IN CRUSHES BEST JUDGEMENT

  • Care intensely about our customers and Crushes success. Inspire others with your thirst for excellence.
  • Use data to inform your intuition.
  • Be efficient with your time. Learn rapidly and eagerly. Make tough decisions without agonizing. Keep us nimble by minimizing complexity and make changes.
  • Make decisions based on the long term, not the near term. Identify root causes and get beyond treating symptoms.
  • Be open-minded and in search of great ideas. Seek out alternative perspectives. Challenge our status quo. Create new systems that prove useful.
