West Bengali Photography Book For Charity
Local Aucklander and creator of this amazing book, Katie Paterson, travelled to West Bengal in India last year. She saw, first hand, a glimpse into the vicious reality of the sex trafficking industry. She found it incredibly heartbreaking to see women her age forced into this industry to survive.
However, the organisation Freeset (who make these amazing bags) are giving these ladies a chance to escape the holds that the sex industry have on them. Through joining the Freeset family, these women are able to experience financial independence, and gain better access to both health care and educational opportunities for their children. They are finally set free, and are able to make a living and support themselves or their families, without having to sell themselves. It was truly inspirational to hear some of the stories of these women, and the work that Freeset are doing, along with these women, to make a change.
Since coming back from India, Katie has created this book with the thousands of photographs she took. She has created it for us to have a glimpse into the everyday life of people living in West Bengal. "To "see Kolkata with your soul, don’t see Kolkata with your eyes”,
THE BEST THING IS she is donating 100% of the proceeds to Freeset! What a woman! This book would be the perfect gift - or a great addittion to your coffee table book collection, a book worth sharing with others.
