To help tell that story, this kids book is a real life social history. Your kids will enjoy the story, and you can also enjoy the resources at the back that teaches them how to research. Some families take the opportunity to do the walk with their kids and point out the real places and streets it is based from.

The story is about Barkell the dogs humorous antics as he visits his neighbours where you see how people lived in Auckland from 1860 - 1901, and discover why his master (the real) Mr Arkell decides to run for Mayor against Auckland's local hero Dr John Logan Campbell.

The hardcover version makes the best gift, it is handbound with linen and lies flat whene opened. Which is great consdering there are a few two paged maps inside!

Can be enjoyed by all ages as younger kids will enjoy the story of the dog, and older kids will enjoy the social commentary and history.
